Adult Reception

October 27, 2015 by icehouse Leave a Comment

By: Natalie Dedas, Sales & Events Coordinator

The “adult reception” is becoming more and more popular, but to some it is still taboo. Let’s face it, children are unpredictable. This is the most important day of your life, there’s no room for unpredictable. Many couples now-a-days are having child free wedding receptions. If you’re entertaining the idea that an adult only reception is the best option for you and your soon-to-be groom, stay true to your decisions. Your wedding day, is your day. You have full reign on what type of reception your hosting, and do not let anyone tell you any different.

Some may think this is tacky, slightly offensive and down right cruel, but you can politely prepare for this backlash from certain guests in the following ways:

  1. Plan ahead. The best way to begin this process is to notify everyone on your Save the Dates. Instead of writing “no kids” or “no children” simply state “adult reception.” Always keep in mind that if you say adult reception, you want to keep this rule throughout your wedding planning process. Do not make exceptions, because word of mouth can spread quickly. This gives everyone with children the proper amount of time to find a babysitter. Always maintain proper wedding etiquette.
  2. Be specific. Once you have sent your “adult reception” Save the Dates out, the message should be clear. However take that extra step of organizational awesomeness and state clearly who you are inviting to the wedding. When addressing invitations on the inside and outside of the envelope, specifically write out the name of each adult who is invited. If their child’s name is not on the invitation, simple, they are not invited not matter how stone cold this may be. Stay away from “and guest” on your wedding invitations.  It may take you a few extra steps to get the names of everyone’s significant others- but you will be happy you took the extra step in the end.
  3. Stand your ground. As stated above while planning ahead, make no exceptions. You decide what type of wedding reception you want to have, not your guests. As the news begins to circulate that you plan on having an adult reception, you will be put in a difficult position more than once. As hard as it may be, you want to remember the same rules apply to all. You made this decision for a reason, and your guests should respect that. Politely decline those guests who go out of their way to call you and ask the question, “Can we please bring our well-behaved children to your reception?”

If you want to be super bride and go above and beyond, you can always provide an option for childcare. Whether it is providing a few trusted babysitter’s information in the area to watch the children or hiring a caretaker in a separate room to watch the children on-site at the reception- this may be your ticket to pleasing everyone.

Cheers!

5 Steps for Wedding Planning Success

Wedding Planning

By: Natalie Dedas, Sales & Events Coordinator

You’re booked. Now what? As event coordinators we tend to see the wedding process take charge of our brides and they become overwhelmed quickly. Wedding planning is not easy, but it doesn’t have to be difficult and cause many sleepless nights. There are some essential details you may need to know before diving into venue tours and catering proposals. Here are a few planning secrets for success…

  1. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff Take it one step at a time. It is so easy to become overwhelmed with every wedding demand. The best way to tackle your to-do list is one-by-one in the most logical order. Prioritize and make sure you are not taking on more than your can handle. Make sure you confirm, confirm and confirm again. This allows a little cushion. If any minor hiccups were to happen, you have time to deal with them and you’re not alone, because your event coordinator will always be there to help! Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions. If there’s an issue, let’s discuss it and overcome the obstacle. No need in stressing out the beautiful bride!
  2. Trust Your Coordinator This is what we do. We love it. Making your wedding dreams come true is our passion, trust us. Trusting your event coordinator, will allow you to be stress free throughout the entire planning process. The more you learn to let go (which is hard we know) the more you will enjoy the process. It’s easy for brides to get stressed, and they can begin to not enjoy planning their wedding. We take that stress off of you to complete the necessary tasks. For example, no bride wants to be setting up the day of her wedding. Enter: The amazing Ice House staff. We take all of your personal items, set your decor out and make sure everything looks perfect for your special day. We are control freaks, which is the main reason you should trust us.
  3. Know Your Budget Be realistic. Sit down and discuss the budget- before you do anything!!! The bulk of your wedding budget will go towards your venue and catering. Before you start shopping around, it’s always good to know your limit ahead of time and tell your caterer that. When it comes to helping generate a proposal of costs this will help your catering coordinator tremendously. Another helpful hint: Look for seasonal discounts! Many venues hold promotions in certain months, days and even in their off-season. If you’re looking to save a little bit and put more money towards the menu of your dreams, this is a great way to do so.
  4. Lighten the Guest List Weddings can add up quickly. The easiest way to cut your costs is by trimming the guest count of course! The majority of your wedding expenses are going towards wining and dining your guests. Once you begin to cut the guest count and invited guests respond to your RSVP’s, you will begin to see your total cost drop significantly.
  5. Have a Tasting! This is the best part about wedding planning. Here at The Ice House, we tend to see the future grooms perk up a little bit when it comes to the food. With our in-house caterer, Crushed Ice Catering, it’s easy to be above and beyond for your wedding tasting because the food is out of this world. The tasting experience at the Ice House & Crushed Ice Catering is unlike any other tasting you may experience. Our catering coordinators take the time to sit down with you and discuss each menu item after you have tasted them, you get one-on-one time with our executive chef and bar manager. You even get to try your wine list and any specialty cocktails your interested in having! Our Ice House coordinators drop in to check on the planning process an answer any questions you may have as well.

Best advice, embrace the process and you will be glad you did. Manage your time at a pace your comfortable with, trust those around you and be realistic about your wedding goals. Use these tips for success and you will be on your way to fun in the sun on your honeymoon reminiscing about the wedding of your dreams!

Cheers!

3 Reasons You Should Start Holiday Planning Now

Holiday Planning

By: Natalie Dedas, Sales & Events Coordinator

There are 80 days to be even more exact,  6,847,112 seconds from the moment I wrote this sentence in this blog post. Not that I’m counting. If that’s not motivation to start your holiday party planning, I don’t know what is!

With the holiday season right around the corner, it is the ideal time to begin your holiday party planning.

  1. Availability Let’s face it. A lot of people, especially in the corporate biz, have stressed over last minute holiday party planning. Either their preferred venue is booked up, their preferred date is long gone, the caterer is booked solid, the list goes on… It’s always a good idea to begin planning early to capture the ideal date for everyone’s schedules in the office. The longer you wait, the slimmer your window will be. Not to mention it’s NCAA Basketball season, and if you live in Louisville, that’s a big deal. Save yourself the agony, and get a head’s start! Everyone in the office will thank you for it later.
  2. Entertainment This is your holiday party! You’re in charge of making sure this gathering is top-notch. It is the one party of the year where everyone in the office can let loose, enjoy themselves and start an impromptu karaoke party. Entertainment is important and it is definitely the one department you do not want to put on the back burner. Whether it’s a band or DJ, these vendors book up fast for this time of year and you don’t want to be responsible for a poor musical act because you waited to start planning. Vendors such as valet parking and photo booths- popular services to have at Christmas parties, also have peak seasons in booking during this time of year.
  3. Because Christmas is Everything. Need we say more? It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

The Ice House, in conjunction with Crushed Ice Catering, has come up with the perfect all inclusive Holiday Celebration Package. The best part? The venue fee is included! This package is priced per person, it couldn’t make budgeting any easier! We are offering this great deal in the months of November, December and January available Monday through Thursday.  If the weekdays do not work for your group, we have specialty pricing on our weekends that are still available.

The Ice House event coordinating staff is here to make your holiday planning simple and easy. From decor, to floor plans and even renting audio visual equipment, let us make your holiday celebration the best it can be!

Cheers!
