Straight from the Bottle

October 22, 2014 by icehouse Leave a Comment

Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition…

Our last wine tasting of the Straight from the Bottle series finished with a battle of hops vs. grapes.

Team Beer was led by our Bar Manager and beer connoisseur Derek Steinbrecher and Team Wine was led by our Ice House Director and wine enthusiast Erica Schnell. Guests choose their sides and voted after every beer, cheese and wine tasting- choosing which they thought paired better with the selection of cheeses.

Our cheese selections for the pairing were a Capriole Farm Goat Cheese, Taleggio Cow’s Milk Cheese and il Glardino Gorgonzola veined with Italian Bleu Cheese.

Round 1: Urguell Pilsner vs. Chenin Blanc

Round 2: Dogfish IPA vs. Gewurtz

Round 3: Founder’s Breakfast Stout vs. Tawny Port

Shockingly enough, guests were divided. The first round went to wine, the second to beer and lastly the tie was broken in the third round.

Who emerged as the victor? Team Beer!

A huge thanks is in order for everyone who came out and enjoyed this series of wine tasting with us. We hope to be back next year with a whole new series. Cheers!

Seneca High School Reunion

October 13, 2014 by icehouse Leave a Comment

High School Reunion

The class of 1964 enjoyed their 50th Seneca High School Reunion in our Main Hall.

Their school colors of gold & red filled the Main Hall with our specialty up-lighting package, and their school spirit was in no shortage in their decorative centerpieces. Their centerpieces were filled with old school spirit items from pep rallies held back in the day. Their committee built these centerpieces highlighting their previous school mascot the redskins. Memories from the past were displayed on their memorabilia table from yearbooks to sports photos. A very sentimental display was also built for their class members who had passed away.

Crushed Ice Events provided a three stations for dinner that included the comfort bar, pasta station and a large dessert bar. The comfort bar was filled with juicy bbq and southern sides to complement. The pasta station had two options of sauce with a red and white. Lastly the dessert bar was provided the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s favorite item a King press of banana, bacon and peanut butter.

After dinner, the class of ’64 danced the night away to classic favorites provided by DJ Ryan Cox.

GO REDSKINS!

Nash- McClish Wedding Reception

October 2, 2014 by icehouse Leave a Comment

Wedding Reception

The Nash- McClish Wedding Reception started with a cocktail hour on our Rooftop Garden with pass appetizers by Crushed Ice Events. It was a gorgeous night in September to have an outside host paid bar on the Rooftop Garden. With a higher guest count, our rooftop serves as the ideal space for a larger cocktail party as oppose to the East Terrace.

After the bridal party made their grand entrance the Main Hall the reception was in full swing! The East Terrace doors were open all evening with guests enjoying bars inside an outside. We have three bars total in the entire event space: one inside in the Main Hall, one outside on the East terrace and one on the third level Rooftop Garden.

The centerpieces and floral decor were provided by J Elizabeth Designs, which consisted of a simple glass vase, bright green apples and a sleek blue ribbon to match her color scheme. The four layer cake was provided by Heitzmans, which popped with the last initial of the newlyweds.

Pauley- McKee Brunch Wedding

October 2, 2014 by icehouse Leave a Comment

The Pauley- McKee Brunch Wedding began with a beautiful early morning ceremony on our East Terrance. With a guest count of around 80 this was the perfect space for a smaller ceremony with close family and friends.

The reception moved into the Main Hall for a breakfast of champions. Crushed Ice Events prepared a substantial breakfast buffet with every kind of breakfast favorite you can think of. The waffle bar was filled with toppings such as chocolate chips, fresh fruit, homemade whipped cream, and of course maple syrup.

The bride-and-groom had a set of coffee cups placed at their seats that said “Mr. and Mrs.” The decor matched their brunch wedding perfectly with delicately lit centerpieces accompanied by coffee beans sprinkled on a glass mirror.

Brunch is the only way to do a wedding!
